Free vCard Generator & Splitter

Create a standards-compliant vCard (.vcf) contact file from a simple form — name, phone, email, address, and more — or split a multi-contact .vcf into individual cards. Imports into any Contacts app. Runs in your browser.

vCard version
3.0 for Android and older Outlook, 4.0 for modern iOS and macOS.
Paste text to fill the form

Photo or logo (optional)

Resized to 256 px and saved in the .vcf file. It is too big for the QR code, which leaves it out.

.vcf preview

Fill in at least one field to get a card and a QR code.

Scan to add contact

Point a phone camera at this QR code to add the contact directly.

💡 Produces vCard 3.0 (the widest support) or 4.0, which the Contacts apps on iOS, Android, macOS, Windows, and Google Contacts import. Everything runs in your browser — no contact data is uploaded.

How It Works

Builds a standards-compliant vCard 3.0 (.vcf) from a simple form — the format every Contacts app imports — or splits a multi-contact .vcf back into individual cards.

  1. 1
    Fill in the contact
Name, organization, phones, emails, address, website, and a note. Blank fields are simply omitted from the card.
  2. 2
    Preview the .vcf live
The vCard updates as you type, with proper escaping of commas, semicolons, and line breaks so it imports cleanly.
  3. 3
    Download or split
Download the .vcf (or copy it), or switch to Split mode and paste a multi-contact file to download each contact separately.

Contact details never leave your browser — no upload, no account.

Guide

Worked example

Open "Paste text to fill the form" and paste five lines: Ada Lovelace, Analytical Engines, +1 555 0100, ada@example.com and example.com (these are the lines shown as the placeholder). Press "Fill the form". The page says "6 fields filled in." and sets "First name" to Ada, "Last name" to Lovelace, "Organization" to Analytical Engines, "Phone (mobile)" to +1 555 0100, "Email" to ada@example.com and "Website" to example.com. The ".vcf preview" shows a vCard 3.0 card with N:Lovelace;Ada;;; and FN:Ada Lovelace, then TEL;TYPE=CELL:+1 555 0100, EMAIL;TYPE=INTERNET:ada@example.com and URL:https://example.com. Under "Scan to add contact" the page reports "QR holds 184 bytes." Press "⬇ Download .vcf" to save ada-lovelace.vcf. Switch "vCard version" to 4.0 and the phone line becomes TEL;VALUE=uri;TYPE=cell:tel:+15550100, and the QR size drops to 182 bytes.

Which settings to use, and the limits

  • Paste contact details to fill the form. Open "Paste text to fill the form", paste an email signature or a few lines, and press "Fill the form". It picks out email addresses, phone numbers of 7 to 15 digits, websites, and WhatsApp, Instagram, LinkedIn and Telegram links. The first other line becomes the name (a "Last, First" form works), then the company, the job title, and the rest goes into the note. Labels such as "Phone:" are removed. It replaces everything already in the form. If you paste a whole BEGIN:VCARD block, it is read into the form, and properties the form has no field for are dropped. Paste one card at a time.
  • Pick the vCard version before you download. It starts on 3.0. The page says "3.0 for Android and older Outlook, 4.0 for modern iOS and macOS." The two differ in detail: 4.0 writes phone numbers as tel: links with only digits and +, writes social links as URL lines (3.0 uses X-SOCIALPROFILE), and puts the photo in as a data link. Both use CRLF line breaks and fold lines longer than 75 bytes. "Copy" copies the card text, and "⬇ Download .vcf" saves a file named after the contact, such as ada-lovelace.vcf.
  • Add the extra fields and a photo you need. "+ Add a field…" adds "Another phone" (type Mobile, Work, Home or Fax), "Another email" (Home or Work), "Birthday", "WhatsApp number", "Instagram", "LinkedIn" and "Telegram"; the × removes one. A WhatsApp number becomes a wa.me link, and an Instagram, LinkedIn or Telegram handle becomes a profile link. A website without a scheme gets https:// added. "Choose image" under "Photo or logo (optional)" shrinks the picture to fit 256 px, never enlarges it, and saves it as a JPEG on a white background inside the .vcf.
  • Keep the QR code small enough to scan. The code holds the card as text, and the line beside it says how big that is, such as "QR holds 184 bytes." Above 450 bytes the line turns amber and adds "That is dense for small print. Turn on compact QR or shorten the note." "Compact QR (leave out note, address, birthday and social links)" keeps name, company, job title, phones, emails and website. It changes only the QR, not the .vcf. The photo is never in the QR. "Download QR" saves PNG 512, PNG 1024 or SVG, as contact-qr.png, contact-qr-1024.png and contact-qr.svg.
  • Split, merge or convert in "Split a .vcf". Drop one or more .vcf or .csv files, or paste text into "Or paste a multi-contact .vcf or CSV". The page lists "3 contacts found" with a "Download" link for each. "⬇ One .vcf" saves them all as contacts-merged.vcf, and with two or more contacts "⬇ Download all (ZIP)" saves contacts-split.zip after "Preparing ZIP…". Files are named after the contact in lower case, keeping letters and numbers from any script, with -2, -3 added for repeats. Files you drop are added one after another, so you can merge several exports.
  • Turn a contacts CSV into cards and remove duplicates. A CSV needs a first row of column names. A name column ("Name", or "First name" and "Last name") together with "Phone" or "Email" is enough, and headings such as Company, Title, Website, City and Notes are recognised too. Commas, semicolons and tabs are detected, and the list is marked "converted from CSV". When names or phone numbers repeat, a box such as "Remove 1 duplicate (same name or phone)" appears, and ticking it drops the later cards. Phones match on digits only, so +1 555 0100 and 15550100 count as the same.

Common problems and how to fix them

It says "No complete vCards detected — each contact must run from BEGIN:VCARD to END:VCARD."
In "Split a .vcf" the tool keeps only blocks that have both a BEGIN:VCARD and an END:VCARD line. A card whose end was cut off in a partial export or copy is dropped. Text with no cards is then tried as a CSV, which needs a header row, at least one data row, and a name column together with Phone or Email. Check the end of the file and the first row of the CSV.
It says "Too much data for a QR code — shorten the note or remove some fields."
The QR library could not fit the card. At the medium error-correction level used here, a QR code holds about 2,300 bytes of ordinary text, and accented or non-Latin letters take more bytes each. The "Download QR" buttons stay greyed out while this shows. Tick "Compact QR (leave out note, address, birthday and social links)", shorten the note, or remove fields. The .vcf is not affected and can still be downloaded.
It says "That image could not be read. Try a JPG or PNG."
The browser could not decode the file as a picture, so no photo was added. "Choose image" lets you pick any image file, but your browser has to be able to display the format, and some cannot. Save or export the picture as JPG or PNG and choose it again. The picture is not uploaded: it is shrunk in the browser and written into the card.
It says "Fill in at least one field to get a card and a QR code."
"Copy link", "Copy" and "⬇ Download .vcf" stay greyed out until at least one field has text. The drop-down menus for phone, email and address type do not count. Type a name, phone number or email, or use "Fill the form" with pasted text.
The vCard version buttons seem to do nothing to my .vcf file.
In "Split a .vcf" the cards from a .vcf are kept exactly as they were, version included, so 3.0 and 4.0 do not change them. The buttons only affect cards made from the form and cards converted from a CSV. To change one card's version, paste its text into "Paste text to fill the form", pick 3.0 or 4.0, and download it again. That route drops properties the form lacks, so use it only for a simple card.

How it compares

The Contacts app on your phone or computer is the better place to keep and edit an address book. This tool is for making a card or QR code from details you type or paste, and for splitting, merging and converting .vcf and CSV files you already have. The form covers one name, up to three phones, up to three emails, one website, one address, a birthday, four social links, a note and a photo. It writes no other vCard properties, and it does not edit a .vcf you drop in. Nothing is uploaded. "Copy link" puts the filled form in the web address after #c=, so a bookmark restores it, but anyone who has that link can read the details.
