How do I remove a password from a PDF?

Drop the PDF here, type the password you use to open it, and press Unlock PDF. You get a copy that opens without a password and has no print, copy or edit restrictions. The pages are not changed. You can drop several files at once; one password is tried on all of them.

Can I unlock a PDF to print it or copy its text?

Yes. Many PDFs open without a password but block printing, copying or editing. Those restrictions are removed without any password: drop the file and press Remove restrictions.

I forgot the password. Can you recover it?

No. This tool only uses a password you type and never guesses, cracks or brute-forces one; a PDF with a strong password cannot be opened without it. Ask whoever sent the file. Banks, phone and utility companies usually explain the password in the email or letter that came with the statement, for example part of your name, date of birth or account number.

Is it safe? Is my PDF uploaded?

Nothing is uploaded. The PDF and the password stay on your device, the password is never stored and is cleared from the page after use. Only the PDF engine (about 1.3 MB) is downloaded once from our own server. It is free, with no sign-up.

Which PDFs can it unlock?

Any standard PDF password security: RC4 40-bit and 128-bit, AES-128 and AES-256, as written by Adobe Acrobat, Word, banks and scanners. PDFs locked with DRM (for example some ebooks) or with digital certificates use a different kind of protection and can't be unlocked here.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Your files are opened and processed inside your browser and are not sent to LibraTool. Some tools first download a processing engine or AI model to your browser; that download contains no data of yours.

Its security settings are read on your device: no protection, restrictions only (it opens without a password), or a password needed to open it.

Only the password you type is tried, once per press. Nothing is guessed or cracked. Restrictions-only files need no password.
