How do I add page numbers to a PDF without uploading it?

How do I leave the cover page unnumbered and start the body at 1?

Tick "Skip first page" or use the preset "Cover page: don't number, start body at 1". You can also set a From page, To page or a page list such as 2-10, 15, 20-.

Can I use a format like Page 3 of 12?

Yes. Choose the "Page n of total" format, or pick Custom and type a template with the tokens n for the page number and total for the page count, as the hint shows. Custom text must use Latin letters, numbers and punctuation.

How can I number pages for double-sided printing?

Tick "Mirror left/right on even pages" so numbers sit on the outer edge of both sides. You can also pick Top or Bottom, font, colour, Bold, margin and size from 6 to 48.

Why does it say my PDF is password-protected?

The tool cannot stamp encrypted PDFs and shows an error asking you to remove the password first. Unlock the file, then add page numbers. A corrupted PDF gives a separate read error.
