Diacritics (Arabic tashkeel, Hebrew niqqud) and the zero-width non-joiner (ZWNJ) are excluded from the character count by default, matching how the text is read. Working only in Arabic? The Arabic Word Counter adds kashida (tatweel) removal and Arabic-only filtering.

Counted entirely in your browser using Unicode text segmentation — your text never leaves your device.

How It Works

A word, character, sentence, paragraph and reading-time counter built specifically for right-to-left scripts. Pick your language preset (Urdu, Persian, Hebrew or Arabic) and paste your text; every metric updates live as you type. Unlike Latin-only counters, it uses the browser's Unicode segmenter so it counts user-perceived characters (graphemes), handles combining diacritics correctly, and treats Persian/Urdu ZWNJ joins as part of a single word.

  1. 1
    Choose your script
Tap Urdu, Persian, Hebrew or Arabic. The preset sets the right text-segmentation locale, the matching diacritic ranges (Arabic tashkeel vs. Hebrew niqqud), a script-appropriate font, and a native-script sample you can load with one click.
  2. 2
    Type or paste your text
Write directly into the right-to-left text box or paste an existing document. Words, characters (with and without spaces), sentences, paragraphs, unique words and reading time recalculate instantly.
  3. 3
    Control diacritics and numerals
By default diacritics (harakat / niqqud) and the zero-width non-joiner are excluded from the character count, matching how text is read. Toggle 'count diacritics as characters' to include each mark, and switch between Western, Eastern-Arabic and Persian numerals for the displayed figures.
  4. 4
    Copy what you need
Copy a plain-text stats summary for reports, copy your text with all diacritics stripped, or clear the box to start over. Cross-link to the dedicated Arabic Word Counter for kashida removal and Arabic-only filtering.

Everything is computed locally in your browser using the built-in Intl.Segmenter API. Your text is never uploaded, stored, or sent to any server.
