Letters play at the speed on the left; the gaps between them stretch to the gap speed. Good for learning to hear whole letters.

Encoding, not encryption. Morse code is a public encoding standard β€” it provides no confidentiality or security. Anyone who sees the output can instantly decode it.

How It Works

The tool encodes and decodes text using a hardcoded International Morse Code lookup table β€” no library, no server call. Conversion, audio playback, and WAV export all run entirely in the browser using the Web Audio API.

  1. 1
    Lookup table conversion
Each character is uppercased and matched against a 54-entry MORSE object (A-Z, 0-9, and common punctuation). Letters become dot-dash sequences separated by spaces; word boundaries become a forward slash. Decoding reverses the same table. Unknown characters are flagged rather than silently dropped.
  2. 2
    ITU-standard timing calculation
The tool derives all timing from a single unit: 1.2 seconds divided by your chosen words-per-minute (the PARIS standard). A dot is 1 unit, a dash is 3, the gap between letters is 3 units, and the gap between words is 7 β€” matching the ITU-R M.1677 specification.
  3. 3
    Web Audio API playback
Pressing Listen creates an AudioContext and schedules one OscillatorNode per dot or dash at your chosen tone frequency (400–1000 Hz). A tiny linear ramp on the GainNode smooths each beep's attack and release to avoid clicks. No audio files are fetched β€” the waveform is synthesised on the fly.
  4. 4
    Offline WAV export
Download WAV uses OfflineAudioContext to render the same oscillator schedule to an AudioBuffer at 44100 Hz without playing it aloud, then a hand-written DataView encoder packs the samples into a standard 16-bit mono RIFF/WAV binary and triggers a file download β€” no server involved.
