Free Magnifier

Use your phone camera as a magnifying glass: zoom in on small print, freeze the frame, switch to high contrast or inverted colours and save a PNG.

Point the rear camera at small print and press "Start magnifier". Zoom in, freeze the picture, or switch to a high-contrast view that is easier to read.

The camera starts only after you press the button. Nothing is uploaded.

Tips for reading small print

  • Good light matters more than zoom. Turn on a lamp, or the torch where it is available, and keep your hand's shadow off the page.
  • If the picture is blurry, move the phone a little further back and then zoom in. Most phone cameras cannot focus very close.
  • Press "Freeze frame" to stop the picture moving so you can read it comfortably, then "Unfreeze" to carry on.
  • On a computer this uses your webcam, which is rarely suited to close-up reading.

πŸ” Camera pictures stay in your browser tab. Nothing is uploaded, and the camera stops when you press "Stop camera", switch tabs or leave the page.

How It Works

The page opens the rear camera, draws the part of each video frame you have zoomed into onto a canvas, and applies the reading filter on top.

  1. 1
    Start the camera
Press "Start magnifier" and allow the camera. The rear camera is used when the device has one.
  2. 2
    Zoom and filter
Use the "Zoom" slider or the plus and minus buttons, and pick "High contrast", "Invert" or "High contrast inverted" for easier reading. Drag to move around when digital zoom is in use.
  3. 3
    Freeze or light
Press "Freeze frame" to hold the picture still. Where the camera supports it, "Torch on" lights the page.
  4. 4
    Save a snapshot
Press "Take snapshot", then "Download PNG". The filter you chose is included in the saved picture.

Camera pictures stay in your browser tab and are never uploaded. The camera stops when you press "Stop camera" or leave the page.
