How do I scan a document to PDF for free?

Press "Open camera", allow the camera, and point it at the page; an outline shows when the page is found. Press the round button for each page, then "Done". Each page is straightened and cleaned up; check them, choose A4, Letter or "Fit to page", press "Make PDF" and then "Download PDF". It is free and needs no account.

Do I need to install a scanner app on my phone?

No. It works in the phone's browser (Chrome, Safari, Samsung Internet and others) and uses the rear camera. If your browser can't open the camera from a page, "Use the camera app" takes the picture with the phone's own camera instead, and you can also add photos you already took.

Are my documents uploaded anywhere?

No. Finding the page edges, straightening, cleaning up and making the PDF all happen in your browser tab, so the pictures never leave your device. The camera stops when you close it, switch tabs or leave the page, and closing the tab discards the scans.

Can I make the scanned PDF searchable or copy its text?

The PDF holds the page images, so its text can't be selected yet. Press "Image to Text (OCR)" under the finished PDF to send it to the OCR tool, which reads the text so you can copy or save it. For the best results, scan with "Clean document" or "Black & white" and "High" quality.

What if the page edges are wrong or the scan looks grey?

Press "Adjust" under the page and drag the four corners onto the page's corners; a magnifier shows the exact spot under your finger. Edges are found most reliably on a darker surface with even light. For grey or shadowed paper choose "Clean document", or "Black & white" for text only. Pages can also be rotated, moved and deleted before making the PDF.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Your files are opened and processed inside your browser and are not sent to LibraTool. Some tools first download a processing engine or AI model to your browser; that download contains no data of yours.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. It runs in current mobile browsers on iOS and Android, with nothing to install. Very large files can be slow or run out of memory on a phone, so use a computer for those.

Tips for a clean scan

Lay the page on a darker surface than the paper, so its edges stand out.
Use even light and keep the phone's shadow off the page. The torch helps in a dim room where the camera supports it.
Flatten folds and hold the phone above the middle of the page, with all four corners in the picture.
On a computer this uses the webcam, which works for a sheet held up to it; a phone camera gives sharper text.

How It Works

The page opens your camera (or reads your photos), finds the four corners of the document, maps them onto a flat rectangle with a perspective transform, evens out the lighting, and writes the pages into one PDF, all inside your browser.
