Free Color Vision Test

Take a 15-plate colour vision screening with dot patterns made on the spot, type the number you see, and get a careful summary of red-green or blue-yellow tendencies. Not a diagnosis.

This is not a medical diagnosis. Screen calibration, brightness, colour filters and room lighting all change how the plates look, so results can differ from a clinical test. If you are worried about your colour vision, see an optician or doctor.

A 15-plate colour vision screening

Each plate is a circle of coloured dots with a two-digit number hidden in it, or nothing at all. Type the number you see, or press "I see nothing". Do not stop to study a plate: go with your first impression. The plates are generated in your browser, so they are new every time.

  • Turn off night mode, blue-light filters, dark-mode extensions and any colour filter, and do not zoom the page.
  • Set the screen to a medium or high brightness.
  • Use daylight or plain white room light, not coloured light.
  • Wear your usual glasses or lenses. Tinted lenses change the result.
  • Test with both eyes first. You can cover one eye and repeat to compare.

The same code always gives the same plates. Your result shows its code.

πŸ”’ The plates are made and checked in your browser. Your answers are never uploaded, and only your last result is kept in this browser. Nothing goes in the page address.

How It Works

The page packs random dots into a circle, writes a number into them by colouring the dots along the number's strokes, and picks the two colours by searching for pairs that a simulated colour vision difference cannot tell apart while typical vision can. Everything runs on your device.

  1. 1
    Set up your screen
Turn off night mode and colour filters, use medium or high brightness and daylight, then press "Start the test".
  2. 2
    Read each plate
Type the two-digit number you see and press "Next plate", or press "I see nothing". There are 15 plates, including obvious ones and an empty one.
  3. 3
    Get a careful summary
The result counts misses on the red-green and blue-yellow plates and says whether the pattern leans protan, deutan or neither. It is never a diagnosis.
  4. 4
    Review or repeat
Press "Review every plate" to see the answers, or "Retake the same plates" to repeat the same test code.

Your answers stay in this browser. Only your last result is saved here, nothing goes in the page address, and nothing is uploaded.
