* Regional units. Maund, seer and chhatak have no single worldwide value - they depend on the standard you select above.

The historic imperial maund standardised in 1833: 1 maund = 40 seer = 37.3242 kg, 1 seer = 80 tola = 0.9331 kg. Still the basis for grain and jute trade in much of India.

Nepal: Nepal does not use the maund/seer system - it uses dharni & pau, where 1 dharni ~= 2.39 kg and 1 pau (= dharni / 4) ~= 0.5975 kg. Convert via the gram/kg result above if you need a dharni equivalent.

Tola (11.6638 g), kilogram and gram are fixed in every standard. Always verify against your local bazaar or contract weight for trade.

How It Works

Maund (mann), seer (ser) and chhatak are traditional bulk-weight units used across India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and beyond - but their exact value varies by region. This tool reduces everything to grams using the standard you choose, then converts cleanly into kilograms, grams, seer, chhatak and tola.

  1. 1
    Pick a regional standard
Choose British Indian (1 maund = 37.3242 kg), Pakistan metric (1 maund = 40 kg), or Bangladesh. This sets the gram value of maund, seer and chhatak; tola, kg and gram stay fixed.
  2. 2
    Enter an amount and unit
Type a quantity and select the unit you are converting from - maund, seer, chhatak, tola, kilogram or gram. Quick-amount chips (0.5, 1, 5, 10, 40) speed up common trade figures.
  3. 3
    Read every equivalent
The headline shows kilograms, grams and seer instantly. The all-units grid lists every conversion - tap any value to copy it, or use Copy all for a full shareable summary.
  4. 4
    Check the regional caveat
Because these units differ by region and bazaar, the amber note explains the active standard and Nepal's separate dharni/pau system so you can verify against your local contract.

Every conversion runs entirely in your browser using fixed arithmetic - no amounts, units or results are ever uploaded or stored.
