Free UUID Inspector

Decode any UUID or ULID β€” see its version, variant, and the creation timestamp embedded in v1, v6, v7, and ULIDs. Runs entirely in your browser.

πŸ’‘ Versions 1, 6, and 7 (and ULIDs, ObjectIds, KSUIDs) embed a creation time, which is decoded above. Versions 3 and 5 are name-based hashes, 4 is fully random and 8 is vendor-defined, so none of those carry a timestamp. Paste several IDs at once to compare them, and tap any value to copy it. Everything is parsed in your browser.

Common uses

  • Check a UUID VersionFind out whether a UUID is v1, v4, v7, or another version at a glance.
  • Extract the Timestamp from a UUIDv7Decode the creation time embedded in a sortable UUIDv7.
  • Decode a ULIDRead the timestamp and randomness from a ULID.
  • Debug IDs in Logs and DatabasesQuickly understand an unfamiliar identifier you found in a log or table.
  • Learn How UUIDs Are StructuredSee the version, variant, and time fields that make up a UUID.

How It Works

A UUID is not just a random blob β€” its digits encode a version, a variant, and (for some versions) the exact time it was created. This tool decodes all of that locally.

  1. 1
You paste a UUID or ULID
With or without dashes, braces, or the urn:uuid: prefix.
  2. 2
    The structure is parsed
The version nibble and variant bits are read to identify the format (v1, v4, v7, etc.), all in your browser.
  3. 3
    Embedded data is extracted
For time-based versions (v1, v6, v7) and ULIDs, the creation timestamp is reconstructed and shown as a date; v1 also exposes the node and clock sequence.
  4. 4
    You read the breakdown
Version, variant, normalized form, and timestamp are laid out clearly.

Identifiers can be sensitive (a v7 UUID reveals when a record was created). Everything is parsed on your device β€” nothing is uploaded.
