How do I convert currencies and see the exchange rate trend?

Type an Amount, choose From currency and To currency, and the Converted amount updates. A history chart shows 1 unit of the source in the target over 7, 30, 90 or 365 days, with Low, Average and High.

Where do the exchange rates come from and how current are they?

Rates are European Central Bank reference rates fetched from the Frankfurter API, updated each business day. The page shows the as-of date, and rates are cached in your browser for 12 hours.

Does the currency converter work offline?

Yes, after rates have loaded once. They are stored in your browser, and the tool shows cached rates (offline) when it cannot reconnect. History charts need a connection unless already cached.

Why is the rate different from what my bank or exchange kiosk gives me?

These are mid-market reference rates for information only. Banks and exchange kiosks add a margin on top, so the amount you actually receive will usually be lower.

What do I do if the converter says it couldn't load exchange rates?

Check your internet connection and press Try again. The rates request is the only network call, and it sends no amounts or personal data.

How It Works

Converts between currencies using the European Central Bank's daily reference rates, fetched once from the free, key-less Frankfurter API and then cached in your browser. This is the only LibraTool tool that makes a network request — and it only reads exchange rates; none of your data is ever sent.

On first open, the tool downloads the latest ECB reference rates (published each business day around 16:00 CET) and stores them in your browser's local storage.

Every amount you type is converted on your device using the cached rates — instant, with a live "1 X = Y" readout and a quick table of popular currencies.

Because rates are cached, the converter keeps working without a connection. It shows the "rates as of" date so you always know how fresh they are.

The only network call is a read-only rates fetch — no amounts, no personal data, nothing about you is sent. Mid-market reference rates differ from what banks and exchange kiosks actually charge.
