πŸ’‘ Uses the standard 4.0 scale. Honors adds 0.5 and AP/IB adds 1.0 grade points (an F is never bumped). GPA is weighted by credit hours β€” a 4-credit A counts more than a 1-credit A. Weighting policies vary by school, so check yours.

How It Works

All calculation happens in your browser using a hand-written weighted-average engine β€” no library, no server. Each time you change a course, React's useMemo recomputes your GPA instantly from a standard 4.0-scale lookup table and your entered credit hours.

  1. 1
    Grade lookup
Every letter grade (A+ through F, including +/βˆ’ variants) maps to a fixed point value in a hardcoded lookup table β€” A+/A = 4.0, Aβˆ’ = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, and so on down to F = 0.0. Selecting a grade from the dropdown reads that value directly.
  2. 2
    Course-type weighting
If a course is marked Honors, a 0.5 bump is added to its grade points; AP/IB courses get a 1.0 bump. An F earns no bump regardless of course type, matching standard weighted-GPA policy. Regular courses receive no adjustment.
  3. 3
    Quality-points arithmetic
For each course the tool multiplies adjusted grade points by credit hours to get quality points. It then sums all quality points and all credit hours, and divides the first total by the second β€” the standard weighted-average formula used by most US high schools and colleges. The unweighted GPA runs the same formula using base 4.0 points only.
  4. 4
    Cumulative blend (optional)
If you enter a prior cumulative GPA and its total credit hours, the tool applies the same weighted-average formula across both datasets: (priorGpa Γ— priorCredits + termQualityPoints) / (priorCredits + termCredits). Latin honors standing (Summa, Magna, Cum Laude) is then derived from fixed unweighted thresholds.
