💡 Read bands from the end with the tolerance band (often gold or silver) on the right. 4-band resistors use two significant digits; 5- and 6-band use three for tighter precision.
Students tips
The classic mnemonic "Big Boys Race Our Young Girls But Violet Generally Wins" maps to black-brown-red-orange-yellow-green-blue-violet-grey-white = 0-9.
Set the bands here, read off the value, then verify — repetition builds the memory fast.
The tolerance range shown tells you the real min/max resistance, which matters in voltage-divider math.
