For news verification: EXIF can confirm when and where a photo was taken — useful when checking submitted images for date manipulation.
GPS coordinates from EXIF cross-referenced against claimed location help spot misinformation (e.g., "this is from Ukraine" but EXIF shows GPS in another country).
EXIF can be edited or stripped — absence doesn't prove fraud, but mismatches are red flags. Use as one signal among several for verification.
For staff photo audits: check that a journalist's claimed shooting dates match the EXIF metadata of submitted images.
